Local community leaders originally founded the Kitsap Family YMCA in
Bremerton on May 1st,1911.

First Bremerton Y building, is dedicated by Rear Admiral Dr. Francis
Harlow, Mayor of Bremerton, around 1913. -->

Navy YMCA building, built circa
1924 stood outside the gates to the Shipyard, until it was torn down for
the development of the ferry transportation center and the new building
in East Bremerton was built in 1986.
In
order to meet the growing needs of our community, the Y has developed our core programs
including day care, teen character development, youth and family activities and
five
decades of free, learn-to-swim programs for handicapped children.
Our goals are to build strong families, provide
quality childcare, increase volunteer services, foster positive growth
in our youth, prevent substance abuse and develop healthy lifestyles for
all people at the YMCA. Our staff takes great
pride in our facility and the varied programs which we offer. You will
find that we have a very professional staff, dedicated to membership
service and the needs and goals of each and every member.
In addition,
we have a large number of dedicated volunteers and support staff, who
augment our professional staff. Our YMCA is governed by a Board of
Directors comprised of volunteer community leaders. We provide a wide
range of comprehensive programs that serve thousands of people
throughout Kitsap County.
Our mission is to build strong kids, strong families and strong
communities; to instill the YMCA's core values of
Caring, Honesty,
Respect and
Responsibility in all programs and services; to focus on
programs which specifically serve our youth, teens, families, disabled,
elderly and enlisted military.
Being a member at the Kitsap Family YMCA means more than just joining a
gym or taking a swim. Becoming a member of the YMCA is like being part
of a really big family. The YMCA is a place where everyone can feel
safe and welcome regardless of age, gender, religion or ability. We
have programs and activities designed just for you.
